Burbank Airport's New $1.3 Billion Terminal Opens October 13: What Changes for Your Trip

LA's easiest airport is getting a brand-new terminal with the same 14 gates. Here's what changes, what doesn't, and how to land like a local.

Burbank has always been LA's best-kept secret. Small. Fast. Ten minutes from Universal while everyone else is still crawling out of LAX. The only thing wrong with it was the building, a terminal that dates back to 1930.

On October 13, 2026, that changes. Hollywood Burbank Airport opens a brand-new terminal, and the easiest airport in Los Angeles finally looks the part.

The short version

Same airport you love. Much better suit.

You get more room, more security lanes, and baggage claim that is finally indoors. What you don't get is a second LAX. The new terminal keeps the same 14 gates, so Burbank stays quick in, quick out, and close to Hollywood, Studio City, and the Valley.

The good stuff

Here is what the airport says is waiting for you:

  • One security checkpoint for the whole terminal, with more TSA lanes than before. Less line, more trip.
  • Baggage claim moves indoors. All three carousels, one hall.
  • More places to eat and shop, with room for local businesses.
  • Bigger, newer restrooms.
  • A new parking structure with electric vehicle charging.
  • Separate lanes for buses, rideshare, and parking. The old single shared lane is gone.

All of it fits in about 355,000 square feet, up from roughly 232,000. The 1930 building is set to come down once the move is done.

Don't take our word for it

What they wisely left alone

The best part of Burbank is what isn't changing.

The gate count. A local measure caps Burbank at 14 gates. You are getting a better building, not a busier airport.

The location. The new terminal sits on the northeast side of the same airport, with its own new access road. Burbank is still the closest airport to Burbank, Universal City, Studio City, North Hollywood, and Hollywood.

Landing on or after October 13? Do these three things

  • Check with your airline before you leave. The airport says it will publish move-in plans, and the first weeks in any new terminal bring changes.
  • Pull up the airport's site for current maps and parking: hollywoodburbankairport.com.
  • Give yourself a few extra minutes. The roads, the signs, and the pickup lanes are new for everyone, locals included.

Land. Walk out. Drive.
