Why a hybrid
wins LA.
Premium 91 in LA is hovering north of $5.40 a gallon. The M3 and X7 sip it, but for a working car — rideshare, extended business stays, week-long visits — the math on a hybrid wins by a lot. The Prius at 57 mpg combined costs roughly $40 in fuel to cross 500 miles. A premium-fuel sedan at 25 mpg costs over $100 for the same distance. Multiply that across a 30-day rental and the gap is meaningful.
The 2025 Camry Hybrid is hybrid-only across the lineup now — Toyota dropped the gas model entirely. Ours is AWD standard (new for 2025), which is rare in the segment and useful for the rare wet-weather day or a Big Bear run. 232 horsepower, 0–60 in 7.0, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, wireless CarPlay. The interior is genuinely a class above the rental-counter Camry of three years ago.
The Prius is the volume rideshare pick — 57 mpg combined, redesigned cabin, 12.3-inch screen, wireless CarPlay. Five star rating across 47 trips. We rent multiple Priuses on month-long terms to rideshare drivers and they pencil out at a fraction of the weekly rental-counter rate.
